The following was discovered by two researchers in the 1841 UK Census:
1841 census HO107 1065/11 folio 24
Bedford Street St Mary Newington
Robert Dowen 50 Mason Scotland
Ann Dowen 50 Not born Surrey
Caroline Dowen 15 Boot B? Born Surrey
George Dowen 15 M Apr born Surrey
Not sure how Dowie became Dowen, perhaps a Scottish accent, anyway it proves Robert is Scottish which is the best news ever. Now it’s just finding out which part of Scotland he was from to try to link him to the various families I have on file.
Slowly but surely, bits of history become available to grow this tree. Part of my New Years resolution is to try to update the blog at least once a month, well this is a good start to 2010.
Will see what January brings in research.
