Breaking the brick wall

Posted by: Ralph on the 3 July 2010 |

Well it’s that time again when one decides to make a concentrated effort to push through the genealogy brick wall.

I’ve been stuck at my source Robert Dowie for too many years now so have spent what spare time I have on looking at all recorded Scottish births around the 1784 time frame and surprisingly it is not many. I also think that as he was married in England at an approximate age of 34, he may have been previously married in Scotland. Perhaps his wife and/or children died, if he had children, and then ventured to England to start again. So this is another search being undertaken.

Somewhere around the mid to late 1700’s my family was linked into Neil Dowie’s family as our DNA has indicated we share a common ancestor some 300 to 400 years ago. By looking at both trees I may be able to find a branch that leads to mine. This research will take some time and I’m also assuming Robert’s birth was recorded.

I will see what ventures forth, if anything I will at least build up the other Dowie family trees that I keep.
